About Mike

I'm a professional violinist and violin teacher, based in Wixams, Bedfordshire. I trained at Chetham's School of Music and later at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, Germany, where I studied with Professor Ariadne Daskalakis.

After spending eighteen months in Colombia, teaching in the music/social programme Batuta, I returned to the UK and started working as a freelance musician and violin teacher.

My teaching philosophy

Playing a musical instrument can be one of life's greatest pleasures. It is one of the very few activities that require mental, physical and emotional energy. Perhaps for that reason, it is also one of the most rewarding things to do.

I believe that any child can learn to make music, and that all should have the opportunity to try. Like learning a foreign language, the younger one starts, the easier it is. How many adults regret not having had the opportunity to learn to play as a child?

Nobody will say it's easy to learn the violin, but my simple, logical approach makes it manageable and fun every step of the way.
